Hump Day!!

Happy Hump Day! Lisa Here, It has been so busy around here that I literally missed a day somewhere and didn't realize we were already at Wednesday. Surgeries, MRI's...my son's are keeping me and the medical professionals busy these days. Life hasn't been all bad though. My very good friend Dawn came to visit and brighten my week last week. It was such a welcome distraction in the midst of life that gets overrun with too many things to accomplish and not enough time. Being with Dawn made me think back to how our friendship started. We both moved to Lincoln from Denver around the same time in 2002. It took moving to a whole new place for us to meet even though looking back we had many places and people in common in Denver. Funny how that happens. Our friendship was instantaneous but our time living close together was short lived. They were transferred to a new area only 18 months after we met. Sometimes friendships suffer with distance, but Dawn and I had an incredible connection as did our husbands and kids too. We have made it work even though real life face time is few and far between. Here is a layout I made of Dawn and I just before she moved away.

Hump Day seems like a good day to think about friendships and how much they add to our lives. How about you? Do you have that special friend that can instantly pick you up when you are down, or make you laugh when you just need to? Maybe you should scrap that today. What better way to celebrate a good friend.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Special Ops: Altered Item

Washi Tape Storage

Today's project is all about storing  displaying your washi tape collection.
I've seen extensive discussons in scrappy groups on the best way to store washi, but so few of them let me get to the EXACT roll of tape I want quickly. While out thrifting with a friend
I found the perfect solution to my dilema.

This nic-nac shelf had lost its glass front and was shoved to the bottom of a $1 box. A good deal always makes the best altered item so I snatched it up.
I knew if I put acrylic paint straight on the wood it would soak in unevenly. I had a spray can of Rust-Oleum in gold and decided to go with that. Because of our sub-zero temps I can't paint outside. So, I lined my bathtub with cardboard and plastic and gave this beauty 2 coats.
(SHHHHHH don't tell the landlord!)
Once it dried I added white acrylic paint to the sections in an artsy pattern and then painted all the cross bars white. This left the hinge and latch sections of the shelf still showing.
But I had a PLAN!
Being a paper crafter means punches and I'm particularly fond of border punches. I punched strips of black paper, backed them with white and then adhered them to the top and bottom of the shelf. A strip of black ribbon on each side and my washi display was finshed.

Hope this helps get that washi out more often so you can use it.

Check my blog Scrappin' Chaos for a list of supplies.

Scrap On!

Still in love with love...

Still in love with love??...

Michele from Stuff by Belle here today to share some hump day inspiration.

Even though Valentines Day has passed February is still all about love, right?  I created this tag with 'heart' day in mind but wouldn't it also work for other occasions like anniversaries or birthdays....  I just love all the options!!

My tag uses 3 different VLVS! stamps; potty people (man and woman symbol), ticket and with love .  From UWS I used the circle confetti mask for my embossed background along with a love speech bubble.  May Arts ribbon, Bo Bunny doily, crown charm, vintage button, American Crafts brad, glimmer mist, Zing embossing powder, distress ink and archival ink and washi tape.

Don't forget about our challenges this month!
The one up right now just happens to be LOVE inspired.
You have until the end of the month to link up.  I can't wait to see what you create!!

Shake it up it's Hump Day!!

Shake it up its Hump Day!!

Hi Bev Code here ... so glad to share with you today. Shakers are so much fun, that today I am going to show you how to make one!

Here is a photo of the Jillibean Soup Packaging for the corrugated shapes. It is perfect to make a shaker.
The plastic dome is perfect but also today I am using the background shaped piece.

Carefully take apart with as little ripping as possible.

I decorated the background packaging of the Jillibean Soup.

Add the beads to the clear plastic, I found this the easiest way. This way you can add the glue to the edge and flip the other piece on top centered within reason with a quick slide to center it if necessary.

Loved the sports theme on this one.. it will make a great guy card, birthday card or just for fun project.
Cover the back side and add the sentiments.

It was so much fun I made another one which I totally papered
covering the whole background first. I then added some cute accents, a banner and a sentiment.

After using the same process to add the beads I added an accent on the outside to finish it off.

Hope you enjoyed this today. Take inventory of your packaging of some of your scrappy items. How many more of them come in this type of packaging. Some of those small kids toys come in plastic domes also. Save them and make some of these cute shakers.

Thank you for stopping by today!

See you Saturday

Basic Training

Doodle Dee Day!

Michele here today to talk about DOODLING!

Now, I know that everyone has doodled...on paper while you are talking on the phone or in school while listening to a lecture but when you consider it on your projects you get SCARED!  Well don't be!  Doodling adds such a fun feel to your projects.

I started with a tag that I stamped and splattered.

I used my precision pen from American Crafts in black.

I started with a simple out-line.

Then randomly added loops, dots and dashes.  I did this all around the tag.

I added some washi tape and some appropriate word stickers.

Then I decided to doodle around the stickers too.

I love how doodling brings some whimsy to your project!

Here is the finished tag:

I hope you are inspired and don't be nervous to try some doodling.  It adds a nice touch to layouts and cards too!!

As always, we thank you for spending part of your day with us here at SWAT!!  Make sure you check out the challenges we have up this month...link up for a chance to win!!
