Special Ops August

Summer is winding down and lots of are squeezing in our vacations before school starts up again in a couple of days.  Hey everyone, Michele here for this month's Special Ops and I am going to share a clock I created.  This one is fun because it can sit on a table or hang on a wall...

You'll need a hand drill, a wood 'canvas', clock kit, patterned paper, a background stamp, mod podge, gems, distress stain, acrylic paint, crackle glossy accents, some sort of flat flower die (I used a Tim Holtz die), brads.

Find the center, mark it with a pencil.

Use your hand drill (with a bit appropriate for the clock kit) and drill a hole all the way through where you marked the center.

Clean off all the saw dust and stamp with your background stamp and acrylic paint (I used white).

When the paint is dry cover with distress stain (I used Vintage Photo), dab the stain off the paint if you would like more contrast.

Cut a piece of you pattered paper the size of the face, adhere, cut a hole in the center, I did a bit more stamping with distress ink in Vintage Photo and then covered with mod podge.  When the mod podge is dry assemble you clock kit.

Of course now come the fun part!!!  I cut numbers for 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, covered those numbers with crackle glossy accents, inked them up and adhered.  I used gems to mark all the other numbers.

Then I cut a BUNCH of flowers from some Bazzill paper, adhered and VIOLA.

This is a shot of the side, I love the resist created with the paint!!

I use this clock on a table top, it is a perfect home decor piece.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are enjoying the last couple days of summer!!

Hump Day August 27th

Guess What Day It Is Hump Day Camel Stickers

Hump Day, OH YEAH!!!

Michele here today for a super quick share...
Since summer is almost over I thought I'd share this summer topiary I created using a AWESOME vintage spool I found at a local antique shop and some lovely May Arts ribbons.

For details and to see which ribbons I used visit my blog...I used floral pins to attach the flowers to a Styrofoam ball.  A wood dowel covered in ribbon attaches the ball to the spool.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you have a few spare minutes to join us in our current drills!  We have a great prize up for grabs...a gift certificate to Retro Cafe Arts!!
Looking forward to seeing what you create!!

Hump Day August 20th

Michele here...Saturday I shared a background technique using a gelli plate (click here to see it).  Today I want to share the finished layout created with that piece of paper.

The paper is Authentique Classique: Pretty Neat and Cursive.  I got this collection in my kit for Scrappy Chic, I just love Authentique!!  I also used an Um Wow Studio mask (circle confetti) with mist for another layer then paint splatters and some modeling paste in the butterfly swarm mask. There is a bit of the damaged punchinella chip (also UWS), some of the new banner ribbon from May Arts, a Kaisercraft flower, Heidi Swapp 'smile' embellishment and a couple of Viva Las Vega Stamps (butterfly specimen and waybill/invoice background).

Here is a close up of the layers of the background.

I had so much fun creating this background!!  I can't wait to try it again.
Thanks so much for stopping by to see my finished layout and make sure to stop back Saturday for our next drill!!

August Basic Training-Gelli Plate Background

Michele here on this fine August Saturday!  Are you having a great summer??  It sure is going by fast...
A while ago I was inspired to make my own gelli plate with Amazing Mold Rubber (see the inspiration here).  I have dabbled a little bit with it but I was browsing you tube and was inspired yet again.

Today I am going to share a quick technique to create a fun background using a gelli plate (either homemade or one you purchased).

You will need a gelli plate, brayer, paint or gesso and some sort of stencil or mask (I used punchinella).

Smear a bit of your medium on the gelli plate.  You should add enough depending on how big of an area you plan to cover.

Use your brayer to evenly spread it around.  I chose to just cover the middle.

Lay your stencil (you can create layers with more than one) and lift off.

You should see your pattern on the gelli plate.

Lay your paper face down, and press with your hand so you pick up an even background.

Carefully peel the paper off and viola!

Check back Wednesday to see the final layout created with this gesso background.  And while you are here check out our first August drill, you have until the end of the month to link up an entry.
