Special Ops: Night Light

I recently picked up several unfinshed 12x12 wooden shadow boxes by Art Minds from Michaels.
On the same day I grabbed a Ciao Bella DCWV stack.
The images in this particular stack are so perfect for fussy cutting that it wasn't long before I had decided that I should combine them to make a night light.

Supplies:
4 sheets of cardstock...2 with large images, 1 for the back ground, 1 for the stars
2 sheets of acetate
Battery Operated Mini Light Set...15 clear bulbs
Scraps of black cardstock
Staples
Hot Glue

First I removed the lid and then painted the inside and outside of the box with black acrylic paint.
For my second step I traced the shape of the lid on to cardstock and punched the inner edges. Using this as a mask I laid it over the lid and rubbed InkaGold around the edge.

I cut a moon for the upper left corner using two sheets of acetate. Dye ink between the layers and staples on the edges holds the moon together and to the edges of the lid.

I fussy cut the ship and the owl from different pieces of cardstock. The ship I adhered to the inside ot the lid and the owl to the outside. I used glue dots on the owls head and ears to stabilize both the moon and the owl.

For the inside of the box I adhered a night sky patterned paper.
I arranged the lights so that 5 bulbs hung down. The others I removed. I used 1/2 inch circles and hot glue to attach the wires to the edge of the box. The battery pack I left loose so the batteries can be changed.
I punched 10 stars using {THIS} method, adhered them in sets, and slipped each one over the edge of a bulb.

I reassembled the box and was ecstatic with the results!!!

Check my blog Scrappin' Chaos for a list of supplies used and instructions for the stars.

Happy Hump Day!

Happy hump day! Venetia Here, This week I decided to face a personal challenge. I hope to   help you face the challenge yourself! Lets all make it a card making weekend :)

My crafty dirty little secret is that I hate making cards. I finally realized that my loathing for cards is that in the end, the purpose is to make a recipent feel special. That is a ton of pressure. With layouts and canvases, I get to pick what it conveys, and if the viewer dislikes the product, then it is a difference in aesthetics.

This is a birthday card, and although it was out of my comfort zone, I think it will achieve my intent.

Here's to the slide to the weekend!!

Take care ~Venetia

Hump Day September 17th

Are you getting back into the swing of things???  Starting your holiday crafting yet??  I am thinking about it but not quite ready yet...
Happy hump day everyone!!  Michele here sharing with you what I created with the background pieces that were made during Basic Training.  I made a set of three thank you cards.  I can ALWAYS use thank you cards!!

Perfect with just a bit of coordinating color.

Don't you just love how the color looks on those perfect little squares!

Moving that color around is so fun!!

The thank you sentiment is a VLVS! stamp inked up with archival ink and fit perfectly on these cards.

Thanks for stopping by and if you are so inspired make sure to link up to our drills this month.
See you Saturday for drill #40.

September Basic Training-Easy Watercolor Backgrounds

September...oh my goodness where has the time gone??
Michele here today to share a super quick and easy technique for an awesome background!  I have been playing with watercolors a bunch lately and find that you can do SO much with them.

Here, I'll show you...
You'll need watercolor paper, watercolor paint, water and a brush.

I cut the watercolor paper to card size.  I ALWAYS need cards!!

I wanted a bit of texture also so I also used a stencil (UmWow Studio checkerboard) and gel medium.

I randomly put some of the gel on the paper through the mask.

I LOVE the texture you get!!

I dried with my heat gun...

Once the gel is dry you can add the paint.

Make sure you use a good amount of water!

That way you can get your color to roll around.

I added other colors but the most important thing to remember it to dry in between each color so you don't end up with a blob of mud...  I really like how the texture of the gel stands out with the color on it!!

I did all three of these background is 30 minutes, quick right??!!

Make sure you stop back Wednesday for Hump Day to see the finished product.
Until then get out your watercolors and get messy!!

Oh, and don't forget to enter our current drill for a chance to win a fabulous prize!!
