Paper Bouquet

Special Ops:
Paper Flowers
This paper flower bouquet is the latest in bright colors and needs no water.
Check out the tutorial below!
To make these flowers you will need a border punch, washi tape, 3.5 X 10 inch strip of paper,
4 X 6 inch strip of patterned paper, 1.25 inch paper circle, a large gem, and a bamboo kabob stick.
Step 1.
Stretch washi tape on 3.5x10 inch cardstock.
Punch the length of the paper with the border punch.
Cut 3inch lines between the decorative edges of the punched paper, these will be the petals.
Step 2
Roll the punched, cut, cardstock into a spiral. Begin with just three petals for the flower center. As you roll the paper be sure to off set the petals so that the flower looks full. The bottom of you flower will look something like this:
Step 3
Cut a 1.5inch circle of cardstock. Pierce a hole in the center, snip a single line from the edge of the circle to the center. Glue the cut edge of the circle back together so that it shapes a cone.
 Step 4
Thread the bamboo stick through the center of the cone, add a glob of hot glue, place gem on top. Be very careful with the flower stem until the glue is completely dry. Place adhesive around the under edge of the cone, thread the stem through the center of the flower. Leave to dry till flower and center/stem are stuck fast.
 Step 5
To cover the awkward look of the flower base fold the 4x6inch strip of paper into a cone. Adhere to base of flower, trim excess.

I put this bouquet of flowers together for my daughters latest musical production. How fun it was to give her something out of the ordinary!

Check my blog Scrappin' Chaos for a list of supplies.

Scrap On!

May Basic Training-Heat Embossed Resist

Summer is well on its way and in honor of all the May flowers those April showers brought I am sharing a fun resist technique using heat embossing.

Michele here with a super easy background technique.
Here is what you will need:

I used watercolor paper.
Stamp your image with embossing ink and sprinkle with clear embossing powder.  I used Viva Las VegaStamps! high gloss embossing powder.  Now heat it up.
Spray your paper with as many colors as you would like.  I used four Colorations from Art Anthology.
Wipe the color off where is has beaded on the stamped image.  This  one is a VLVS! stamp from a new release,  Wildflower Silhouette
Move the pooling color around and dry with a heat gun.
The Coloration colors used were Waimea Bay, Timeless, Salted Carmel and Guacamole.

You will be able to see the finished card I made with this background over at Viva Las VegaStamps! on May 21.  Visit http://vivalas.blogspot.com/ to check it out.

I hope you are inspired and join us in our challenge drills this month!!  There is a great Spring mood board up right now!!

April Basic Training - Ink Splats for Backgrounds

April showers bring May flowers and this months basic training... Michele here to share a super quick and fun technique with inks.

I used mostly inks but you can also use high flow acrylic paints or fluid acrylics mixed with water.  You will als need a spray bottle with water and a piece of watercolor paper.

Spray you paper with a generous amount of water.

Splatt your inks randomly arond the page.  For the paints you will have to add more water to get a good spread.

Be careful not to layer too many colors on top of each other, you may get mud pies on your page.  :)

I dried with my heat gun to set the color.

I cut my sheet into 2 tag bases for future use.

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you are inspired to try this fun background technique. Thanks to Limor Webber for the inspiration.

If you would like to see what these bases ended up as please visit me over at Art Anthology on April 13th.

Special Ops: Pirate Ship Bookends

Today's Special Ops is all about books and how to keep them supported in style.
I love the look of old maps and Pirate Ships.
This pair of bookends needed an update and Craft Smith paper and Funfare Stencil were right there to help me out. Stop by my blog Scrappin' Chaos for more details on the paper and stencil.
Step 1:
Trace book end then trim a slight edge from that shape.
The paper adheres better if it isn't flush with the edge.
Step 2.
Use washi tape to mask the stencil.
Step 3.
Ink the exposed portion of the stencil.
Dust with embossing powder, heat to set.
 Step 4.
Repeat masking and setting process with each color of ink.
Step 5.
Sand wood surface of bookend.
Adhere paper using Yes Paste or similar adhesive.
When project is dry add washi tape to frame edges.
Books and classy bookends are a most versatile design element.
Get decorating and be sure to post a photo to our facebook page so we can see your handiwork!
A list of supplies can be seen on my blog Scrappin' Chaos.
